Maple is shutting down on December 31, 2026. Its team was acquired by Wander, and Maple's farewell letter says that after that date all data is deleted "and there will be no way to recover it." That includes your calendar, lists, recipes and the connections to Google, Apple, Outlook and TeamSnap. Maple doesn't offer an export button, and it doesn't name a replacement.
This guide gets your family's schedule out of Maple and into Calendara in about 10 minutes. If you're still choosing an app, start with our 7 best Maple alternatives. That guide maps every Maple feature to the app that replaces it best, including apps for Android families.
A disclosure: Calendara is our app. It's an iPhone app (it installs on iPad in iPhone-compatibility mode), and there's no Android version.
What survives Maple's shutdown, and what doesn't
The first question is which of your events actually live in Maple. Maple pulled events in from other calendars and showed them next to its own. Those outside events never belonged to Maple.
| What you had in Maple | After December 31 | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Events synced in from Google Calendar or Apple Calendar | Safe. They still live in Google or Apple. | Connect that calendar to Calendara (Step 2). |
| Team schedules synced in from TeamSnap | Safe in TeamSnap | Take a screenshot of the season schedule, or add TeamSnap's calendar link to Google or Apple Calendar. |
| Events you created in Maple | Deleted | Screenshot them now (Step 1), import them later (Step 3). |
| Grocery lists, to-dos and notes | Deleted | Screenshot them now (Step 1 and Step 4). |
| Recipes in the recipe box | Deleted | Screenshot the ones you cook. Calendara has no recipe box (see Step 4). |
| Maple+ subscription | Annual plans won't renew | Nothing to cancel for annual plans. Check your App Store subscriptions if you pay monthly. |
The rule of thumb: if you typed it into Maple, it disappears. Everything else has a home outside Maple.
Step 1: Screenshot what lives only in Maple (5 minutes)
Do this first, while your account still works.
- Calendar. Open Maple's calendar and screenshot the weeks or months ahead that hold events you created in Maple. Recurring events like piano on Tuesdays only need one screenshot that shows the pattern.
- Lists. Open each grocery list, to-do list and chore list and screenshot it. Scroll and take a second screenshot if a list runs long.
- Recipes. Screenshot each recipe you actually cook, ingredients and steps.
- Notes and anything else. If it matters and you typed it into Maple, screenshot it.
Keep the screenshots in one album on your phone so they're easy to pick in Step 3.
Step 2: Install Calendara and connect your calendar (1 minute)
Download Calendara on your iPhone and create your family.
Then connect the calendar your family already uses:
- Google Calendar: Calendara has two-way sync with Google Calendar. Your existing Google events appear in Calendara, and events you add in Calendara appear in Google.
- Apple Calendar: connect Apple Calendar on your iPhone, and Calendara works alongside the calendars already on your phone.
If you synced Google or Apple through Maple, this step brings those events back without retyping. It's the bulk of most families' calendars.

Step 3: Import your Maple screenshots (2 minutes)
This is the step that makes the switch fast. In Calendara, open AI import and pick a calendar screenshot from your photo library. Calendara reads the screenshot and drafts every event it finds: the title, date, start and end time, and place. You check the drafts, fix anything that looks wrong, and save them to the family calendar.
We tested this before writing it. Maple's app isn't something we can open, so we built sample screenshots in a typical family-organizer layout, filled with a made-up family, and ran them through Calendara's real import:
| Screenshot | Events on it | Calendara got right |
|---|---|---|
| A week agenda, with times and places | 7 | 7 of 7, with start and end times and places |
| A month grid, with event chips on the days | 12 | 12 of 12, each on the right day |
| A grocery list | 8 items | 8 of 8, including "2 gallons" of milk |
Your Maple screenshots will look different, so always review the drafts before saving. A month view with tiny text reads less reliably than a week or day view. If a month looks crowded, screenshot it week by week.
Calendara reads the same way from a photo, so the paper school calendar, the camp packet and the sports schedule can go in with your Maple screenshots. See how photo-to-calendar works.
Step 4: Rebuild your lists (2 minutes)
Lists come back the same way. Import a grocery or to-do list screenshot, and Calendara turns it into a shared list the whole family sees and checks off. More on photo-to-list.
Calendara has no recipe box and no weekly meal planner. Keep your recipe screenshots in a Photos album, or move them to an app that stores recipes. If Maple's meal planner was the center of your week, read the meal-planning picks in our Maple alternatives guide.
Step 5: Invite your family (1 minute)
- Adults with an iPhone: invite them by QR code or link. They join your family and see the shared calendar and lists on their own phone.
- Kids and grandparents without a phone: add them by name. They get their own color on the calendar, and nobody has to create an account for them.
- Family members on Android: Calendara is iPhone-only. An Android relative can follow the shared calendar through a read-only link in Google Calendar, but can't add or edit events.
Before December 31, open the calendar on each adult's phone and check that everyone sees the same events.
Your timeline before Maple closes
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| This week | Take the screenshots in Step 1. They're the only part with a deadline. |
| Before mid-December | Install Calendara, connect your calendar, import the screenshots, invite the family. Run both apps side by side for a week. |
| Before December 31 | Check that nothing you need is still only in Maple. |
| After December 31 | Maple's data is gone. Delete the app. |
What Calendara doesn't replace
Being straight about this saves you a second move. Calendara doesn't have Maple's recipe box, meal planner, family email inbox or group chat. It's an iPhone app with no Android or web version. If your family is mixed iPhone and Android, or Maple's meal planner did most of the work, compare the cross-platform options in our Maple alternatives guide first.
What Calendara does better than Maple is getting schedules in without typing. The school newsletter, the coach's PDF and a screenshot of someone's group text all become events in one step.
New families get a 7-day full-access preview, then $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year for the whole family, with no ads. Families who joined during early access keep their access.
